Marriage and Family Counseling
Counseling can help people learn more effective communication, understand different styles of interacting, and equip families and couples to develop healthier, more positive relationships.
Often the relationship is in need of conflict resolution skills. Counseling can provide an objective third person to negotiate difficult issues.
Several areas where people often seek help through counseling are:
- Parenting Information - Why is my child doing the things he is doing? How do I know what is appropriate discipline? Learn new techniques to get more cooperation.
- Communication Problems - How can I talk so others will listen, express myself appropriately, identify and express feelings and know what to do with my feelings?
- Conflict Resolution - How can I get what I want and still show respect for the other person? How and when do I set boundaries to protect myself and the relationship?
- Divorce Intervention - When is the marriage really broken beyond repair? What can we do to save this marriage? How can we divorce and not cause the children harm?
- Broken Trust - How can we heal after a broken trust? What can we do to learn from the event?
- Anger Management - There are many techniques for managing anger and not letting it destroy relationships. Keeping anger in, or ignoring it is just as destructive to a relationship as expressing it explosively.
- Sexual Issues - What if our sex life is not fulfilling or non-existent? What if one person has had an affair? What if my spouse is addicted to pornography or the internet?
- Families With Special Needs Family Members - The time of adjustment to a special needs child born into the family, or a family member becoming disabled is a difficult transition where counselors can help each family member with their individual needs.
